What is HypnoBirthing?

HypnoBirthing™is a tried and proven programme that considers the psychological, as well as the physical, well-being of the mother, her birth partner, and the newborn, independent of context, whether that be in the quiet of a home, a hospital, or a birth centre.

The HypnoBirthing™ programme includes special breathing, relaxation, visualisation, meditative practice, attention to nutrition and positive body toning. It fosters an air of mutual respect for the birthing family, as well as the health-care provider in a traditional health-care system or an alternative setting. However you’re planning to birth, HypnoBirthing will teach you and your birth partner the skills to stay in control, calm and relaxed.

Why HypnoBirthing with Laura Yates?

I discovered HypnoBirthing when pregnant with my son 9 years ago. Having had experience of hypnotherapy I decided to investigate the use of hypnosis and pain management, firstly for the birth of my baby and following on from that for chronic pain. After seeing a hypnotherapist for 3 sessions I discovered the Marie Mongan HypnoBirthing book and Ina May Gaskin (if you haven’t heard of her look her up!)-that was it, I was in! After my first baby I studied for a hypnotherapy diploma and after this I gained my HypnoBirthing Practitioner qualification with the Mongan Method (believed by many to be the original and best).

I’m passionate about Hypnotherapy and HypnoBirthing and love sharing the skills with others. As a trained and experienced hypnotherapist I am able to ensure that you get the maximum benefits from hypnosis and also tailor the course to suit each individual. I hold regular information and taster sessions so that you can come along and see if this is the right course for you.

The Benefits of HypnoBirthing™

Here are some of the things you’ll learn that are not covered in most HypnoBirthing and antenatal classes:

  • Breathing techniques that actually help the birth (and it’s not the panting that most people think they have to do. Think about it – why would anyone want to hyperventilate during labour?)

  • How to massively reduce the need for any medication at all

  • How to reduce your risk of needing an episiotomy during birth with a stunningly simple massage technique

  • How to be confident and informed when dealing with the medical staff – when to question, what to ask…and when it’s time to let them take charge

  • How to release any fears you might have about childbirth…regardless of where they come from

  • How to bring about your own easy start of labour with these simple, natural techniques, if you go beyond your “estimated due date”

  • Most importantly, you’ll know how to relax and stay calm and in control – regardless of what’s happening around you

  • You can confidently approach a safe, easier and more comfortable natural birth.

  • We can’t promise you a ‘perfect’ birth – no one can – but we can promise you a much, much more comfortable and relaxed birth than you would have had otherwise.

What are other parents saying?

Don’t just take my word for it-here are some comments from recent courses taken with me:

“Before I met Laura people would mention giving birth and I’d either have a panic attack or burst out crying. Now after doing the HypnoBirthing course with Laura I am 100% confident, so happy and actually really excited about giving birth and meeting my little one. It really has changed my way of thinking and has taught me and my partner so many tools to stay as calm and relaxed as possible for the birth I dream of. I can’t thank you enough Laura for opening these doors and showing me the way”.

“I have just finished my last session of hypnoBirthing with Laura. The whole experience has been amazing. I’ve enjoyed every session with Laura, who has made me feel comfortable and relaxed. My baby (number 2) is due soon and I can honestly say I am looking forward to giving birth being so confident in the techniques Laura has taught me. Techniques that are not only useful in birthing but can also be used in day to day life.”

Not forgetting dads…

“When Sam and I found out we were pregnant we chose to explore the HypnoBirthing route and found that it was exactly what we needed to help us in pregnancy and to prepare for the birth of our son.

Unfortunately the classes we signed up to fell through and we thought we’d miss out on this incredible and beautiful approach to birthing but thankfully Laura stepped in and took us on at short notice and on the weekends when she could be enjoying her own family. The course has been nothing short of brilliant and I have been enlightened in so many ways that I am now thoroughly looking forwards to our birth and completely confident I can support my partner.

Laura has been amazing from start to finish and I cannot speak highly enough of her. Kind, Patient, Happy to help and so much more.

I’m excited and happy to have had Laura with us through this experience and will miss our sessions and Laura’s experience, knowledge and friendship.

If you are looking for HypnoBirthing look no further. Laura is fantastic.”

I am committed to ensuring you get the maximum benefit from the investment you make in HypnoBirthing and go the extra mile to ensure this. This isn’t just a HypnoBirthing course but a complete antenatal education and the skills you learn can also be transferred to every day life-with my hypnotherapy experience you can be assured that this is something I take pride in.

Finally, to quote January Harshe of Birth Without Fear:

“I don’t care what kind of birth you have…a homebirth, scheduled cesarean, an epidural hospital birth or if you give birth alone in the woods next to a baby deer. I care that you had options, that you were supported in your choices and that you were respected.”
