A Last Minute Private HypnoBirthing Course
(Please note this birth story is anonymous but if anyone would like to chat, mum is more than willing to)
I came to Laura for a last minute private HypnoBirthing course with baby number 2. After a traumatic first birth involving 65 hours of induced labour, diamorphine, a vast amount of gas and air and ending in forceps delivery with an episiotomy, I wanted my birth to be different the second time round. I used the birth after thoughts service at the maternity ward in Derriford to talk through my first birth but it didn’t tick all the boxes.
I wanted more knowledge of how birth works and how I could have a calm and gentle birth the second time round. This is when I found Laura who was amazing. It was very last minute so she had to cram in a lot of info in a short amount of time but I cannot stress how priceless her knowledge and support was.
I had tried using some hypnobirthing techniques the first time round but this was just bits I’d read off the internet and in a book.
The course was amazing. I had tried using some hypnobirthing techniques the first time round but this was just bits I’d read off the internet and in a book.
The course with Laura made me feel calm and in control while allowing my partner to also know what to do and how to support me the best he could. After our first birth, we were both pretty anxious about having to go through the same again.
Laura put us at ease and helped us to regain control and we still find it amazing how different it was the second time round with the knowledge we gained from Laura and the HypnoBirthing course. The techniques we used were invaluable, the only thing that we could have done better was to find Laura earlier and to have more time to practise but regardless it changed everything and we are truly thankful to Laura for this.
My son was born 5 days over the expected due date and weighed 7Ib 15oz.
My HypnoBirth and a Surprise for the Midwives!
Mild contractions began at lunchtime the day before but I was so calm about it all that I didn’t really acknowledge it. About 8pm I was messaging my family saying I thought I was having contractions but they were quite far apart (about 10 minutes). By 10pm, my dad was on his way to look after my eldest as my mum had said she felt the contractions were getting closer together and stronger from the way I was describing them.
The relaxation techniques were working so well that I hadn’t noticed they were getting stronger! I tried to go to bed about 1am to sleep but as soon as I laid down, the surge made me get up again. We were on our way to the hospital at 1.45am. In triage, the midwife said I was too calm and she didn’t think I was in active labour but was very surprised when they discovered I was already 7cm!!
I went to the delivery suite at 2.50am and our son was born at 5.15am. We dimmed the lighting, used our playlist and my partner was fully equipped to support me throughout. He remained calm and so did I and we did the breathing and relaxation together. It was an amazing birth and I was kind of disappointed when it was over – apart from meeting my beautiful baby boy! We were so relaxed we forgot to ask what we had as we’d kept it a surprise!
The HypnoBirthing techniques were incredible. They allowed me and my partner to remain calm throughout and it allowed me to have the drug free birth I’d longed for (I was sensible with the gas and air this time round) and when I came to pushing our son out, I could feel my baby moving down and he popped out. I did need another episiotomy but that was because the surgeon did such a good job of sewing me up the first time and it needed releasing.
My partner was so much better this time round, he was quite traumatised from our first birth and admitted he wasn’t looking forward to it until we’d done the hypnobirthing with Laura. We got felt more in control, calmer and way more informed. Thank you!
“After my first birth there were so many things I wish I could have changed but this time round, nothing”
The best bit of my birth was the calmness, being in control and fully informed – after my first birth there were so many things I wish I could have changed but this time round, nothing. After learning HypnoBirthing with Laura, I can honestly say I’d love to do it all again.
What I remember most about this birth is feeling calm and in control as well as learning that I can give birth in a calm and gentle way without needing intervention! Amazing!
I would definitely recommend Laura to others, she’s so knowledgable, calm and inspiring and knowing she had used this technique herself put our minds fully at ease – she’s practiced what she preaches!
Hypnobirthing is worth its weight in gold. It is definitely worth the investment and I’d recommend it to everyone.
