Relaxation – What’s the Point?

Relaxation is a great way to deal with stress management and one of the best ways to diffuse the stress response however it isn’t all about being still and doing something you enjoy but a process that decreases the effects of stress on your mind and body.

The benefits of relaxation include:

  • Lowering your heart rate, blood pressure and breathing rate
  • Reducing muscle tension and chronic pain
  • Improving concentration and mood
  • Reducing fatigue
  • Reducing anger and frustration
  • Boosting confidence to handle problems
  • Maintaining normal blood sugar levels
  • Reducing the activity of stress hormones
  • Improving sleep quality
  • Lowering fatigue
  • Reducing anger and frustration

Learning Relaxation Techniques Takes Practice

As you learn relaxation techniques, you’ll learn to recognise the stress response and what it feels like. You can then make a conscious effort to practice a relaxation technique the moment you begin to feel the onset of stress symptoms.

It’s important to remember that relaxation techniques are skills you learn and as with any skill they take practice. Be patient and it will come but to give yourself a great headstart why not book in with me for a lesson in achieving deep relaxation? Or come along to one of my workshops!

Ways to include relaxation in your life

Find a technique that works for you and make it part of your daily routine, even if it’s only 5 or 10 minutes a day.

Keep a healthy work-life balance to help relaxation and to manage stress.

If one relaxation technique doesn’t work for you, try another technique. If none of your efforts at stress reduction seems to work, talk to your doctor about other options.
